Got the job done, next week facing into a La Rochelle battered by a round trip from west France to Cape Town and back where they botched their travel arrangements and now return to La Rochelle before moving to Dublin, it won’t be easy for them overcoming that round trip on top of a decent examination by the Stormers. Jamie Osborne really proved himself last night, given the age profile of the 3 best centres in Ireland that is a very positive development for the medium term.

John Hyland

That Leicester pack was good but the ref was astonishingly inconsistent at the set-piece. Only Leinster were asked to leave a lineout gap. Cole and Montoya were up to all kinds of skulduggery. I find that our front row doesn’t lack power but is short of guile at times. I hope Porter and Sheehan are ready for Atonio boring in as usual next week.

Niall Moonan

We have no 10, why will Leinster not give Frawley a consistent run at 10? Why keep trying Ross Byrne he’s proven time and time again he’s not up to it. He was anonymous tonight

Robert Cashell

A win but that performance won’t be good enough next week. Leicester should have exposed our narrow defence but botched it more than one.

Odran John OBrien

Leinster really needs a Five Eighth to win anything in my opinion

My biggest annoyance from this match (and I’m seriously fucking pissed off) was our complacency. Much as I was elated with our attitude last week, today was the complete opposite. That said I believe our expectations as supporters are not taking account of the huge vacuum created by the departures of Johnny and Stu. It will take time for the new coaching set up and 10 to settle and thrive

Alan Murphy
Awful game. A game dominated by pedantic adjudication. Every phase seemed to end with a blow of the whistle. Stop, start. Happy with 5 points but dreadful to watch.

Kevin Kelehan
Sloppy start and lax finish but a lot of grit for the middle half of the game either side of half time. Biggest news from the pool was La Rochelle losing again yesterday

SeanieH
·Terrible for Charlie. He’s had some lovely touches lately. Looking classy

Gavin Hegarty

Tommy O’Brien is a class act! Always hungry. Culhane great also.

Harry Byrne is again failing to live up to the hype unfortunately and will most likely be overtaken by prendergast soon enough.

Where has Tector gone?

(reply to Gavin) Peter Tracey

he’s still training away Gav. Just Prendergast has moved ahead of him. Deegan doing a Ruddock and all the dirty work that’s not seen.

Need to develop a 9 for me with McGrath injured and only JGP for big games. Foley did well last season but trying too hard this season so far with his kicking game. Just do the basics. Murphy had a good passing game when he came on. Best to do it now in these games and at least they’re getting experience. Boyle did well. Another area we need to develop.

Odran John O’Brien

Great outing again for Jack Boyle he’s getting better every game

Christy O’Connor

The game was riddled with mistakes from both sides. Very sloppy passing at times, we gave away some very cheap tries. In the end it was a good win. Barron was motm for me.

Richard Kennedy

Very happy with that. Bonus secured by 51 mins against a team stacked full of Scottish internationals. A young team getting quality game time.

Alan Murphy

I seemed to have watched a different game to most posts – we sit on the 22. Our line-out was a shambles, we gave away 3 scrum penalties and handling was really poor. Lots of weak shoulders for Edinburgh’s tries. Great win but really poor game.

Thanks be to jaysus we have 2 weeks off Let’s get everyone together for all the games going forward. That was magic. Our parents / grandparents never had that moment.

Andrew Potts

It was some match, take a few days to process that one.

Amazing SA power and physical

ity and amazing resilience by Ireland. Cough up 6 lineouts and not looked phased by big South African forwards.

Kevin Kelehan

Ireland made so many mistakes, but they have a clear winning mentality, between O’Connell and Farrell you have the two parts of winning, coolness and passion.

Pieter Smit (SA fan)

Well played Ireland. Deserved winners
