Leinster were not at their best tonight, and indeed far from it. A few players that might be considered world class might need a break ad they haven’t been at their best for a while and (a la Richie McCaw) might benefit from the rest

On the plus side, far from our best we ground out a win, Jordan Larmour back scoring tries, and Frawley proving he’s the real deal at 10 are my personal biggest positives for tonight, I only hope these are consistent positives, not one off.

The scrappy start probably suited us to need to fight back, the errors and lack of clinical finishing did not suit us and weren’t the Leinstertainment we would expect, give me more in the red zone please!

Gavin Hegarty

Leinster were far from their best but still ground out a win. Some very uncharacteristic errors from seasoned internationals.

A few bad missed tackles from Ringer, dropped balls from Jimmy, Doris is left wanting and Furlong just ambling along.

Nice for Frawley to get proper time at ten and show what he can do.

Take a bow Jack Conan, great game.

Ronan McManus

It was a bit scrappy (maybe partially Ireland hangover) but a decent win against a team whose only other loss was Ulster away.

6. Jack Conan should be delighted with his performance. The option of keeping him and Doris on the pitch together more often gives a bit more depth (Nienaber influence, presumably)

Jimmy OBrien looked sharp, but missed a few opportunities to weave gold from shit, that the great wingers would have seized.

Very disappointing for Ross Byrne, who looked good. This could have been an important one as far as Ireland is concerned.

Great finish by Larmour for his try. Hopefully the sign of things to come.

Christy O’Connor

Hard to take positives from that display except for Frawley stepping up. School boy errors the whole game.

A good win but still a little disappointing. A good place to be when we’re disappointed to concede 5 to the Scarlets.

Prendergast did well but he’s too light in defence, he’d need more back row cover going forward.

Well done to Ross Byrne on his 150th cap.

Joe Mc was unreal again, he’s a fine future in front of him

(reply to Gavin) Peter Tracey

I’m glad they weren’t great. Loads to work on for next week and Jack will be in place.

Agree about Prendergast but that will come so not too worried.

Could Ross be top points scorer in the future? The only thing is if he’s in Ireland squads.

Joe is going to have a big season. I liked Gunne’s passing when he came on. Looked good for Ireland u20s.

We need to start bringing through a few 9s and props which we are.

Brian Corr

I enjoyed the game, I think it’s funny though that I have to remind myself as do many others that a 54-5 win is an excellent result.

It’s great to see Osbourne in particular doing so well, and the more Prendergast and Gunne get opportunities, the better Leinster will do.

The international contingent had a mixed bag, overall good and funnily enough Furlong looked very sharp.

Delighted for Keenan to get POTM, brilliant as usual.

Kevin Kelehan

Dominant and top of the table

Warren Doyle

God almighty we won👏👏👏👏

Jimmy O Brien had a superb game

Andrew Potts

It was some match, take a few days to process that one.

Amazing SA power and physical

ity and amazing resilience by Ireland. Cough up 6 lineouts and not looked phased by big South African forwards.

Kevin Kelehan

Ireland made so many mistakes, but they have a clear winning mentality, between O’Connell and Farrell you have the two parts of winning, coolness and passion.

Pieter Smit (SA fan)

Well played Ireland. Deserved winners

The true impact of James Ryan on this team is now fully understood. Better team over 80 minutes won, without Ryan we had no answer to Skelton, ref had a good game. This was the 2011 final won for a second star by a team dead and buried after the first quarter. Jack Conan was again superb.

Andrew Bailey

Hugely disappointing. 17 points up and we stoped playing. Signs of panic Kicked so much ball away. Hard to see how this team progresses .Winning by 40 points each week is no preparation

Christy O’Connor

Sometimes teams need to win ugly and grind a result, Leinster need to learn how to do this. No point taking a big lead and not knowing how to defend it

James Griffin (Munster fan)

Hard luck Leinster folks. That was some start but LaR ground their way back in and then strangled Leinster with their power. I think they were helped in that by James Ryan’s absence (physicality and leadership), kicks out on the full, a blocked attempted clearance, some needless penalties / cards, and some wayward long kicking back to them. The slowdown in tempo from Q2 onwards helped LaR but hindered Leinster. Can’t understand why there wasn’t a drop goal attempt at the end; a try wasn’t needed at that stage.

Aidan O’Leary

We missed Sexton the leader as much as the player today.

This is a game I’ll need to watch back.

In the stand, if you believe the boos, comments here, comments all over the Internet etc we can only blame one person but I blame the urc. How did they put that referee in the position that he can be blamed? It’s outrageous that he be put in that position. Any other ref could be chosen so that the “he played” nonsense wouldn’t be am issue.

Regardless, you play the decisions, and adapt.

Well done munster, good luck on the 27th.

Craig Grehan

As an out & out leinster fan. We disrespected munster in cup rugby by not selecting our best team.

A team that does that, does it at their peril. We took the gamble and lost to the MUCH better team on the day.

Andrew Potts

A disappointing day for Leinster fond the demands of a month of weekly knock out rugby a step to far today.

Could have won it but Munster could had a few tries.

Frank Murphy did nothing today but enhance his reputation as a very flawed Ref and biased against Leinster.

In the first minute a player leaves the field unconscious. The result of a high tackle.

I thought three questions had to be answered by the Ref

Was there contact with the head?

Was force applied?

Any mitigation ?

It’s a card but only what colour.

The sanctions must have changed.

The length of time Leinster were defending under advantage was ridiculous, certainly he was a factor.

John Hyland

Munster were the better side today. For right or for wrong, Leo has prioritised the fifth star. This was always going to be a tight game. Let’s hope Munster can do the biz in SA.
